Many of you know I have been a part of H2B for many years. It is by far the best charity I have ever been involved with. The commitment of the Committee is second to none. All through the year these people work tirelessly to pull off this amazing ride. Nobody gets paid to do this. They do it out of love and compassion for people living with HIV.
As an HIV positive man, their commitment touches my heart profoundly. Many of them say they will continue until this epidemic is over.
Unfortunately this is not over. At Boston Medical Center we have recently lost two young patients to AIDS and many others of complications related to HIV. I feel incredibly fortunate to live in Boston where so many people work so hard but we are still losing too many people.
Please help me spread the word that it is not over. Dont be afraid to say it out loud and educate people when you can. Lets have open conversations about HIV. The more we talk about it the less scary it is. The more discussion we have the less shame a newly diagnosed person will feel. HIV is a horrible disease but it is made worse by silence. Silence still = Death.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart
