Harbor to the Bay Beneficiaries include The Fenway Community Health Center, AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod, Community Research Initiative of New England (CRI), and AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts.
H2B believes the funds donated to HIV/AIDS care organizations should be used selectively and wisely. Therefore, H2B's directors and core volunteers have interviewed and chosen our beneficiaries based on the following objective and subjective criteria:
- Direct client support and care
- Number of clients and communities served
- Accessibility for women and minorities
- Successful years in operation
- Fiscal responsibility
- Mission and intent
- Access to newly developed treatments
- Personal testimonials from actual patients
The participants and supporters of H2B take great pride in knowing their hard-earned funds are directly impacting people living with HIV/AIDS, and the organizations who serve them. H2B also takes pride in not charging our beneficiaries any fees for receiving the support of our riders, crewmembers, and volunteers.
Our beneficiaries are New England’s recognized leaders in HIV/AIDS care and are strongly supported by the HIV/AIDS community and the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered (GLBT) community. These beneficiaries exhibit the responsibility, accessibility, reach, and tenacity needed to have a major impact in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
FENWAY COMMUNITY HEALTH
Fenway Community Health has been serving the diverse neighborhood of Fenway and greater Boston since 1972 with primary medical care. In the early 1980’s, after diagnosing the first cases of HIV in New England, Fenway became an international leader in the fight against HIV and AIDS. Today, Fenway is the largest provider of free confidential HIV testing in New England. Fenway currently cares for more than 1100 people living with HIV.
Fenway is the largest provider of HIV and AIDS medical care in New England. A variety of programs provide accurate, up-to-date information on HIV and AIDS. Prevention programs focus on helping HIV-negative individuals stay healthy while also dealing with the emotional impact that HIV has on the individual, family, friends, and community. Other programs help HIV-positive clients, their loved ones, and caregivers deal with the medical, social, financial, and legal aspects of HIV and AIDS.
The mission of Fenway Community Health is to enhance the physical and mental health of its community, which includes those who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, the people who live and work in our neighborhood, and beyond. Fenway provides high quality, comprehensive health care in a welcoming environment. The health center seeks to improve the overall health of the larger community, locally and nationally, through education and training, policy and advocacy, and research and evaluation.
