I ventured out of my comfort zone this weekend and joined a ride by the Charles River Wheelmen, a local bike club. They do a weekly South Shore Coastal Loop. While normally I hate driving to bike, I really wanted to try something new.
The short version of the ride (see map here) is meant to be 43-miles, but having been a little… ahem… lax on my training plan, I cut a few corners and wound up with a GORGEOUS (but hot) 36-mile ride. (Which I paid for later — hence the compression socks in the picture!)
As you can see on the map, the ride goes through Wompatuck State Park and then winds up hugging the shoreline. It was SO beautiful! Roads were mostly quiet (especially since we started at 7:30 am) and it was just breathtaking. I would have stopped for second breakfast, except… I’d forgotten my wallet at home! (I wound up getting some Starbucks on the way home using my iPhone app!) Thank goodness for GUs!
Since the route is arrowed (and since I can lookup where I am anytime on the Ride with GPS map), I’m planning to do the route myself again — maybe as soon as next week!
